My Story
I have been journaling for as long as I can remember.
I first approached writing as a way to process my thoughts and reflect on my experiences, then discovered that writing allowed me to share my stories with others.
While developing my own writing, I also enjoyed helping others to communicate their stories. When I provided feedback on friends’ application essays for college, graduate school, law school, medical school, business school, or other career paths, I found it deeply rewarding to see transformation as words that previously stifled stories were now setting those stories free.
For two years in graduate school, I worked on the admissions committee, reading hundreds of applications and discussing them with a committee of students, professors, career services staff, and admissions staff. I was drawn to personal statements, immersed in stories of students as I followed their journeys and learned about their passions.
I understand that the application process can be confusing, expensive, and stressful. I believe it doesn't have to be. I'd like to walk with you through one part of this process, my favorite part -- the personal statement.
